On December 10, 1962 the FIO was officially incorporated as a non-profit group. The charter lists only two prime objectives for this group. One was to create, promote, foster and encourage interest and consumer confidence in floor covering and the floor covering industry and to promote awareness to the aesthetic and functional values of floor coverings. The second was to promote publicity for the floor covering industry; and to promote, establish and maintain standards for the floor covering industry, including knowledge and advertising standards. THE FLOORCOVERING INSTITUTE OF ONTARIO is dedicated to the professional development of the floor covering industry through education and communication. In 1993, The Ontario Professional Carpet Cleaners Association (OPCCA) joined the FIO to form the FIO-Certified Carpet & Fabric Care division. The FIO-CCFCD is a shareholder in IICRC certification for membership. Our members include Certified Carpet & Fabric Cleaners, Retailers, Manufacturers, Distributors of carpet, hardwood, resilient, and laminate flooring, and suppliers to the industry. For 44 years, the Floorcovering Institute of Ontario has represented the best interests of the floor covering industry in this province.
